Reflection: Chalk Talk Block 4
Through your readings, discussions, etc.., what have you learned so far about the impact of the Holocaust? ...the effect of stereotypes, prejudices, racism? ....the effect of the images on the wall?
(
What I am looking for in your response is more than just a basic reflection of sorts, but a DEEPER demonstration of your comprehension of this content. I am looking for impactful and relevant responses to show your unyielding capability of synthesizing information together in providing a well-written response.)
So far I have learned that the impact of the Holocaust was extremely drastic. It claimed the lives of over 11 million people not only Jews but anyone who was "different" than Hitler's ideal person. It changed the lives and viewpoints of many that survived. It left many in a very unstable state. Its traumatizing to be lied to, hurt and fight for your life on a daily basis just because you are being blamed for something that you had nothing to do with. A lot of those who survived the Holocaust didn’t want to speak of it, and just acted as if it never happened. It was an awful and embarrassing thing who would want to talk about, but many of them also realized that the world needed to know what happened. They realized that them telling their stories would help the future generation, and stop something like that from ever happening again. And I feel that if their stories to continue to be heard and taught through out the generations then it wont happen again, but if its forgotten then it might happen again.
ReplyDeleteBecause of stereotypes and prejudice acts the Jews were no longer as successful as they once were. They were being torn down by greed and someone who wanted to make they whole race go away. They went from being successful merchants and business owners to slaves, and people who were just barely making it in life. The Jews were killed, hated and looked down upon all because of the fact that they were different and Hitler didn't like that, he wanted a world of sameness. The Jews whole world as they knew it was coming to an end, everything was changing and that is mentally and sometimes physically traumatizing. The greed of wanting to be the best, and the head of everything and everyone caused millions of innocent people to lose their lives just because they were different or not loyal to a way that was wrong.
The pictures on the wall made the Holocaust more real to me. Actually seeing pictures changed my whole perspective on the Holocaust. Yes I knew it was extremely terrible but its always a part of the mind that makes things seem less real and more fictional. But when you add pictures to the words you are reading in a type of context that we are dealing with, it hits the heart. It opens your eyes to that fact that no this isn't another story you are reading, it really happen and it hurts. Looking at the picture of the woman holding the child with a soldier behind her with a gun drawn, and the picture of the men carrying the dead bodies hurt me the most. They made me think of what kind of monster could do all these things. These are innocent people who have done nothing at all but because they are different they are killed. Another picture that got me was the picture of the men just standing there. Those men looked so hurt, hungry and in need of hope. When I looked at the faces of all the men I saw pain, and many of them looked unsure. Looking at pictures like this can change the perspective of the story when it is read, it makes it feel a little more personal.

ReplyDeleteWhat I have learned so far about the impact of the Holocaust is that the Holocaust left everyone who was involved (victims only) severely malnutrition, mentally ill, and physically ill with so many diseases and other bodily issues it was ridiculous. Family's were torn apart and some family's didn't have anyone left to carry on their name. Some people were in such bad condition that no amount of help could allow them to live. (Ex. Some of the people dies from being given food rations because their body wasn't used to being given that much food.) One survivor described liberation as "the beginning of something unknown, disturbing and painful." The US sent some doctors and teachers to try and help the victims psychologically. Not only did the Holocaust effect the victims negatively, when the troops went to help the victims out they were horrified and terrified at what they saw. Some said they looked far from human and more like animals or beasts. The Holocaust is a horrific effect of what stereotypes, racism and prejudice are able to do. If you get the right person such as Hitler, they will be able to convince hundreds to thousands that the mass killings of millions is alright. Hitler told thousands of Germans that the Jews were their problem he used the Jews success and the Germans failure against them. Not only did he convince the adults but it was installed into the minds of the children. He put his racist beliefs of the Jews into the textbooks and taught all of those kids to follow his beliefs. He also didn't allow anyone to talk bad about what he did or his beliefs so that it'd seem to everyone that his feelings and actions toward the Jews and other victims were just. The Images on the wall showed me a glimpse of what actually happened in those camps, the conditions that those people lived in and everything else. It's one thing to read about the Holocaust but another to actually see some of things that they went through. The pictures really made me think about how terrible it must've felt to be stuck in there not knowing if you would be freed or if you would die in there. Some f the pictures were just disgusting. How could you do something like that to anybody and possibly think that in any way it's right or just. How can you shoot a mother holding her child and not think that what you're doing is wrong. All in all these pictures are probably nothing compared to everything else that was happening in those camps. Reading about this and seeing those pictures really made me grateful for what I have, who I have and where I'm at in life.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've learned that the holocaust was very harsh and cruel. I say this because it was hate and it was no reason to this to people . I feel that he shouldn't have did it because he wouldn't liked if it was him in the situation . I'm unhappy with the separating of families because I feel that was really harsh and unfair . Hitler made the Jews feel less of their selves when they were not . I feel hitler harassed the Jew because of what he didn't have and wanted . I don't think he should've starved people because that's really bad and the people died off quicker from lack of nutrition . He also was maybe jealous of others and because Jews had better things that the nazi didn't . Hitler basically made Jews and others that were high of their choices and ideas become less of what they were in the beginning . I don't think it was fair . The fact that it wasn't just Jews , it was mainly people that were so called unequal to hitler . He was basically judging them of who they were . Which wasn't right at all . When they were sent to concentration camps I really think that is wrong . I say this because of them being starved , tortured , and marked . I think they were in a really cruel condition . The images made me say why ?and how could he even do or how could they deal with it . Seeing the picture when the dead bodies were in a pile made me wonder the feelings of when they were getting tortured and the people that did it what were they thinking . I would not wanna be put in those situation because the fact of being marked by a number and being starved . The holocaust shouldn't never happened and nobody should've been put through that for no reason . The holocaust shouldn't happened just because of being disliked by certain people . It still makes me think about who survived how they felt after escaping and how they felt during it .
